i got a little/super off-track in that last entry. oops. SO: a real update!
school: this semester is dragging me down. i love two of my classes, and i HATE two of my classes. like, really truly hate them. one of them could pass as an okay class if it weren't for the professor, but one of them is just a joke. i've never had a class of such low quality at berkeley before, and i hope to never have another one. the professors don't have PhDs, and it SHOWS. it's called "race, ethnicity, and health in america" and the moral of the class is: racism is the cause of all evil. white people are all the same - privileged, rich, and oppressive. poor white people don't exist (or matter)! students of color, look at how oppressed you are. yeah, spare me. racism is bad, it has obviously left its mark on communities of color in this country, but it is not the root cause of all problems faced by minorities. shut up. on the other hand, i LOVE my policy class - taught by robert reich (bill clinton's secretary of labor). he is a brilliant, engaging guy who just... aah. easily the best class i've ever taken at cal. oddly enough, the other class i'm really enjoying is my intro to econ class... it's kind of fun, in a sick, demented way (says the daughter of an economist).
work: nothing interesting happening in my current job, but i've got some interesting prospects for the summer. i should find out by tomorrow whether the human resources department at the clinton foundation (BILL clinton, tyvm) wants me as an intern there. that would be cool because it looks great on a resume - HR for the clinton hiv/aids initiative? hell yeah. cons: it's totally desk work. i'm also waiting to hear back from the treatment action campaign in cape town, which would be the best thing EVER. expect a very excited update if that comes through, because omg - that means a) going back to cape town and b) working with the TAC woohoo!
life: well, hmm. i turned 21. i suppose that is of note. drank way too much. roommate took care of me, bless her tiny little head. it was all very sparkly, from what i recall. trying to get around the bay area a little bit more this semester and next year, so that my time at berkeley won't have been completely wasted from a tourist point of view.
....hm. it is difficult to sum up one's entire life in a little box on a computer screen. |
